My Story
Malik Ismail is an international traveler, historian, and activist. He’s explored many cultures in Africa including Ghana, South Africa, and Egypt. He’s also traveled to Cuba, various parts of South America, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.

Malik has formally served as a Panther Minister of Information (New Panther Vanguard Movement) whose writings have been featured in a variety of publications, including the L.A. Watts Times. He was also an honorary member of the Southern California Chapter of the Black Panther Party (1976-1981).
In his memoir, "Old Guard to Vanguard: A Second Generation Panther" (2 editions), he tells the story of the New Panther Vanguard Movement (formerly the New African American Vanguard Movement), the only legitimate heir to the reins of the original Black Panther Party. Malik narrates the story of community and political action rooted in the powerful legacy of the Los Angeles chapter of the Black Panther Party. He also shares his published features on international travel, history, politics, and opinions as a freelance journalist.
In addition, Malik has curated two photo exhibitions and is the host of The Vanguard Show podcast.
